"A whirlwind week of snake bites, parang wounds and drownings. The instructors played their roles to perfection, ridiculous though their injuries were.
The idea was to push every ELT to his/her limit and test their resolve. Imaginary scenarios were thrown at us from all angles; at all times of both day and night. Medical emergencies were dealt with efficiently for the most part but plenty of mistakes were made along the step learning curve.
I now feel more confident that our group can deal with any situation and come out of it on the right side.
The logistics of organising helicopters, Doctors, medication, stretcher building, a team of trekkers and an injured casualty is an arduous task but necessary in this type of remote environment. There are plenty of potential risks and managing both prevention and situations as they arrive are key to the success of our expeditions.
The training was very comprehensive and provided an extensive insight into all sections of incident management. The general areas of focus were casualty management - including medical, evacuation (stretchers etc) and environment - trekkers, safety, organization, training, personal, skills, composure and limitations."
