THE BISEE BOOK BUS LAUNCHES IN ECUADOR

Date added: Thursday 4th March 2010

On 15 March 2010 the BISEE Books mobile literary resource service is to be launched in Ecuador in memory of 5 English volunteers who died in a tragic coach crash on 12 April 2008. The BISEE Book Bus is packed with children's books, play equipment and art and music supplies which will visit schools in the Amazon, Andes and coastal regions of Ecuador. At least 25 schools will benefit, starting with the community school in Bajo Ongota in the Amazon jungle. The launch event will be held at Bajo Ongato school on 15 March 2010 at 11.00am

The BISEE Book Bus ready to go in EcuadorThe BISEE Book Bus is funded by BISEE Books, a charity founded by the families of Becci Logie, Indira Swann, Sarah Howard, Emily Sadler and Lizzie Pincock who died whilst travelling to participate in a similar project. The name BISEE comes from the first initial of each of the girls. Everywhere it goes the BISEE Book Bus attracts attention, thanks to the stunning artwork covering every inch. The design was donated by celebrated children's artist, Quentin Blake, who is a staunch supporter of the project.

The BISEE Book Bus also takes up to 8 volunteers at a time. The volunteer crew will engage with the children, promoting reading in a way that is creative, safe and above all, fun. By mixing books with role play and art, they aim to encourage an early interest in reading. Through repeat visits, regular book donation and help with developing library spaces, they will instil a lifelong love of reading.

The BISEE Book Bus operation has the recognition and support of The Ecuadorian Government Ministry of Education and the British Embassy in Quito.
