Azafady Joins Year Out Group

Date added: Monday 5th October 2009

Azafady is an award-winning UK charity dedicated to supporting the people and ecosystems of Madagascar, one of the biologically richest but economically poorest countries in the world. At the heart of its work is an integrated approach to supporting the Malagasy people and their unique environment, built around locally expressed needs and community participation.

Azafady Pioneers celebrate completion of a school buildingAzafady offers volunteers, including those on a gap year or career break, the opportunity to get involved in its projects in Madagascar through unique and challenging volunteering programmes lasting from 2 to 10 weeks. In their award-winning 10-week Pioneer Programme groups of volunteers work on a variety of projects such as building and equipping schools, constructing wells and latrines, environmental education, and forest conservation. Azafady is launching an innovative Conservation Programme in 2010 in which volunteers can get involved in all aspects of our ongoing conservation work through five 2-week modules, which can be taken individually or combined. They also offer short-term volunteering opportunities in English teaching and community construction for 2 to 3 weeks for those with just a little time to spare.

Their volunteering programmes are an excellent choice for anyone considering a career in development or conservation - or for anyone who wishes to contribute to community-led sustainable development projects while experiencing the inspirational island of Madagascar!

Mark Jacobs, Azafady's London based director said, "Azafady is delighted to become part of the Year Out Group and looks forward to this new collaboration bringing great benefit to our small grassroots charity, and therefore to our beneficiary communities and the fragile and unique environment in southeast Madagascar".
