Gap year adventures help people learn more about the world, one student traveller has claimed.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Australian undergraduate Hayley Needleman explained how she spent time living and working in Israel as part of her gap year.
Culturally and geographically, the country is very different to Australia.
As a consequence, Hayley said she had gained a better understanding of another country - and of Jewish culture in general.
"It was a year of independence and it gave me a greater understanding of the world," she added.
Earlier this month, US high school graduate Daniel Taub told the Princeton Packet that he experienced "pure living" during his gap year adventure.
He said he had seen and done things he could never have imagined during a recent trip to China and Mongolia.
