Foreign Office relaxes Thailand warning

Foreign Office relaxes Thailand warning

The Foreign Office has relaxed its advice warning British gap year travellers to avoid Thailand over the flooding affecting the country.

It had previously advised nationals to avoid all but essential travel to all 22 of the country's provinces, each of which had been affected.

Despite relaxing its guidance, the government department has continued to emphasise the importance of keeping safe within the country.

It has advised British nationals to exercise caution and to ensure that they follow the advice of local authorities if they are in an area that has been hit by floods.

The Preah Vihear and Ta Krabey/Ta Moan temple areas should still be avoided by all, while discretionary travel to Pattani, yalay Narathiwat and Songlhla should still be avoided.

"The Foreign Office will keep its travel advice under constant review," it stated.

Heavy rainfall that swept across Thailand in September caused the onset of widespread flooding and has been responsible for an estimated 530 deaths.
