Anyone travelling to the Gold Coast in the next few years could find that their stay coincides with some of the many exciting events taking place in the Australian region.
According to Martin Winter, chief executive officer at Gold Coast Tourism, the region continues to "reconfirm its global event status", having already secured the Australian leg of the International Rugby Sevens for the next four years.
The next week will also reveal if the area has been chosen to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games, with the winning region being announced on November 11th.
"As part of a long-term strategy, we will continue to invest in securing major events for the Gold Coast and look to increase participation and attendance, which will optimise the greater promotion of the city. It is a very exciting time for the Gold Coast on the events landscape," Mr Winter stated.
However, if watching sporting events isn't people's ideal way to spend their year abroad, the Gold Coast also offers a wide variety of areas to explore, including a stunning coastline.
