Thailand floods kill over 370 people

People taking a gap year in Asia have been advised to take precautions if they are travelling to Thailand.

The country has suffered from its worst flooding in half a century, with at least 373 people killed since mid-July.

An estimated 2.5 million citizens have been caught up in the severe weather conditions, which have hit a total of 26 provinces.

Further problems are expected in Bangkok in the coming days, which has led to the government of Thailand to declare a public holiday from today (October 27th) until Monday.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has pointed out that British nationals travelling to the country should remain cautious and follow any advice given by local authorities there.

Foreign Office minister Jeremy Browne added: "A dedicated team has been set up in the British Embassy Bangkok, led by the Ambassador, to deal with any new developments and oversee assistance to any British nationals who need it."
