Americans are choosing a variety of portals to decide where to base their next overseas trip, which could include those who are travelling to take part in gap year projects.
The Ypartnership/Harrison Group 2011 Portrait of American Travellers report highlighted that around four out of five respondents seek advice from families and friends as important for making up their minds.
However, generational differences are seen in regards to other portals, with people between 18 and 32 years old more likely to trust online blogs (54 per cent) and destination websites (53 per cent) than older travellers.
Furthermore, when it comes to searching for an ideal destination, which could be the setting for a gap year adventure, those between 33 and 46 years old are more likely to trust what is written on an online travel agency page than other age groups.
For those planning a gap year style honeymoon, Mark Henshall, editor at Frommers.com, has recently advised a tour of Bali.
He pointed out that the destination presents a "really romantic" setting which also has a "religious, spiritual side" to explore.
