People who are set to base some of their gap year activities around snow-covered resorts have been advised to make sure their eyes are protected during their trip.
Liz Segre, editorial director of AllAboutVision.com, pointed out that it is best to adjust the lens tint of eye protective wear based on the weather.
For instance, amber tints will likely offer the best defence for gap year students who are subjected to "low-light days and bright days".
However, if the weather brings about a high amount of glare as the sun dazzles off the snow, polarised and darker lenses are recommended by Ms Segre.
"You could buy two or three goggles to make sure you're ready for all the different light situations. But it's probably smarter to choose a goggle that lets you change the lenses when you wish," the expert went on to note.
For those still planning on taking a gap year trip which takes in winter sports, Edith Zweifel, media and content manager at Zermatt Tourism, acknowledged that the Swiss resort of Zermatt is a "very attractive" destination.
