Gap year in India: Must-see attractions in Delhi

Gap year in India: Must-see attractions in Delhi

When planning a gap year in India, first-time visitors to the country should ensure their trip includes a stop-off in Delhi, which boasts a wide array of must-see attractions, according to one expert.

Paarth Kumar, editor for Indiatravelblog.net, said the majority of Brits land in Delhi on their gap year trip to India, so the first item on their itinerary should be the sights in the city itself.

He named Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid, the India Gate, Humayun's Tomb and Qutab Minar as the main Delhi attractions not to be missed on a gap year in India.

"After Delhi, some of the must-see destinations are the Golden Temple at Amritsar, Agra Fort, the Taj Mahal … Goa's beaches, the Konark Sun Temple and Jagannath Temple," Mr Kumar added.

Last month, Professor Andrew Jones, from the University of London, told the Huffington Post that young Brits increasingly want a gap year abroad that offers new and exciting cultural experiences.
