There is strong demand across Europe for graduates seeking career opportunities outside the UK, according to one commentator.
Writing for the Scotsman, Martin Hannan said it was a "puzzle" why more young people were not considering a gap year abroad on which to gain work experience that will help them improve their job prospects.
He added that as British graduates face increasing difficulty in the UK jobs market, the idea of finding opportunities abroad is "not as daunting" as it perhaps once was.
"The gap year generation is learning that 'abroad' may be just the place to start a working life," said Mr Hannan.
Last week, speaking to the Independent, law graduate Vinita Addy revealed how gaining work experience in the US had helped her get one foot firmly on the career ladder.
After graduating, she worked as an intern at The Roth PLLC, a successful small-scale firm in New York, and has since found job success in a legal role with an international asset management company.
