Brits planning a gap year in South America have been urged to visit Brazil, which boasts a tropical climate in every season, as well as all-year-round attractions for those undertaking gap year activities nearby.
According to Marco Lomanto, director of products and destinations for Embratur, gappers can enjoy the very best Brazil has to offer at any time of year, with a visit to the Amazon the ideal starting point.
"You can ride round the Amazon River and there are a lot of tourist things to do round there. You can go to Manaus - it's a nice city and you can stay [there] - they have beautiful lodges in the forest to stay in," he explained.
Mr Lomanto also named Sao Paulo and Rio as must-see cities for those choosing Brazil as their gap year destination, on a trip that may include structured activities such as voluntary work or learning new skills.
Earlier this year, Lonely Planet author Kevin Raub advised UK travellers to ensure they visit the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro on their gap year in South America, as the lively metropolis offers "something for everyone".
