Globetrotters looking to explore Chile as part of their gap year abroad will find that Santiago has plenty to offer visitors without the need to part with a lot of gap year money.
According to Cristian Lopez, UK director at marketing body ProChile, the capital city's transport network provides a convenient and low-cost method of getting to see as much of the gap year destination as possible.
"Santiago has a very affordable, high quality and extensive metro as well as inter-city bus and coach services connecting it with the rest of the country, which makes it particularly easy for backpackers to get around," he explained.
Mr Lopez went on to highlight the city's "inexpensive, fresh and healthy food" as another reason Brits on their gap year abroad should take time to experience the Chilean capital.
To help gappers get the most from their time in Chile, a number of Year Out Group member organisations offer unique voluntary work programmes, as well as opportunities to learn the language.
