Student lands TV job after gap year in Chile

A keen musician graduating this year with a degree in English literature and creative writing has landed a fantastic job combining all of his interests, thanks in no small part to his gap year experience in South America.

Fabian Chaundy, 22, will soon be scriptwriting for BKN, an award-winning Chilean TV series about a group of teenagers in a band, the Eastern Daily Press reports.

A fluent speaker of Spanish, Mr Chaundy spent a gap year abroad in Chile, where he was also born, on which he worked as a translator for major national television company MEGA TV.

He was later offered the position of subtitler for BKN and has been writing material for the programme since January, though he will soon be responsible for 20 of the forthcoming series' 30 episodes.

"Now that I'm back in the UK, the work is all done via email. I hope UK employers will recognise this valuable experience as I'd really like to start a career in the media here," the student added.

Mr Chaundy is one of more than 4,100 students graduating from the University of East Anglia this week.
