When choosing which gap year destination to visit for voluntary work or skill-building activities, British travellers will find that their gap year money goes further in North America, it has been claimed.
Speaking at the City Fair 2011, Jennifer Tombaugh, president of Tauck, said: "The good news for Europeans, and most of the rest of the world, is that currencies are still very strong against the dollar."
Ms Tombaugh explained that, while this makes overseas travel more expensive for Americans, Brits heading to the States, perhaps on a gap year adventure, will find that the US offers great value for money.
Meanwhile, South African Tourism recently highlighted KwaZulu-Natal's south coast as a gap year destination boasting endless adrenaline-charged activities for Brits seeking an adventurous overseas experience.
According to UK country manager Lebohang Mokhesi, the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve is a "must see" for those with an interest in the natural world, while the beaches provide an array of unique diving opportunities.
