Ilkley woman set for Central American career break

A Spanish-speaking woman from Yorkshire will take a career break to join other volunteers in Central America.

The Advertiser reported that Lisa Rushforth, a business development manager from Ilkley, has been accepted on a three-month expedition to Costa Rica and Nicaragua with gap year organiser Raleigh International.

Ms Rushforth, 29, will spend her time carrying out voluntary work, which could involve working in a community, while she will also get chance to undertake an adventure.

"There are three phases to the expedition – a community, which could involve the experience of working in a remote village, then there will be a conservation or environmental phase. The last part will be doing an adventure phase, which is part of the challenge," she said.

Ms Rushforth is currently asking for businesses to donate prizes so that she can organise a number of fundraising events for her career break.

Richard Oliver, chief executive of Year Out Group, said that Raleigh International, a member of his organisation, is a highly experienced specialist in its field offering well structured programmes that will help deliver skills that are highly valued by employers.
