Blue Ventures-Licence to kill... a lionfish (for good reason!)

Date added: Tuesday 25th August 2015

The chase is on! Blue Ventures and its passionate and dedicated marine research team in Belize are out to†hunt lionfish again and we would love for you to join us on this exciting quest. Donít miss this opportunity to learn how to hunt lionfish whilst diving daily in the Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve and join us from 31st October Ė 6th November this year on a 7-day dive trip, voted as a†Nation Geographic Tour of a Lifetime!

Pretty beast? Itís red, itís white, itís majestic, itís weightless and itís beautiful. ButÖ it has invaded the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System and lives there without any natural predators, which endangers the fragile and unique ecosystem of the Caribbean Ocean as well as target fish species for fishermen.

While their presence has devastating consequences for the reef, lionfish has the potential to be utilised as a much needed, high quality, alternative target species for local fishermen and also createsemployment opportunities for women, who create beautiful jewellery out of the lionfish spines, tails and fins!

In order to help control the lionfish population and its impact on the reef, you have the unique opportunity to join Blue Ventures on our next hunt and help minimise the lionfish population, whilst being involved in the entire process from hunting to dissecting and eating this delicious fish!

You have more time to your disposal? Why not take part in a 3-12 week†Scuba dive expedition in Belize where there are also opportunities to participate in lionfish culls and where you learn how to monitor the UNESCO World Heritage listed dive site whilst advancing your Scuba diving skills, learning about marine conservation and living in a beautiful tropical setting?!

Join us now or†get in touch should you have any questions.

We look forward to going out on an exciting hunt with you soon!
