Gap year students have been advised to visit the city of Chandigarh when they are travelling in India by an industry expert.
Sarina Singh, senior author of Lonely Planet India, said that Chandigarh has become increasingly popular for people travelling through India on gap years or career breaks.
She added that previously people only used to stay in the city for a short time, however, now there is a tendency for travellers to spend longer there, seeking out a number of Chandigarh's cultural attractions, including the Nek Chand Fantasy Rock Garden.
"Another reason for the recent surge in tourism is Chandigarh's clean, green appeal, which offers travellers a welcome respite from the vicissitudes of life on the road," she added.
Year Out Group has 18 member organisations which provide gap year placements in India, including Africa Asia venture which recently announced that it was offering new graduate teaching opportunities in the country.
