A gap year student who is planning to travel to South America to teach underprivileged children has started his fundraising campaign.
The Enfield Independent reported that Alexander Allen, 18, has been selected to volunteer with Project Trust, where he will teach maths and science to children in Guyana.
He aims to raise £4,850 for the trip, which will see him working with limited equipment and living in basic South American accommodation.
"If it was not for the encouragement of my family, the school itself and the dedication of the teaching staff, I would not be able to give something back to children less fortunate than myself," he told the source.
Mr Allen, who has organised events at his school and in his community, is hoping to receive donations from people in the local area.
Along with Project Trust, Projects Abroad is another Year Out Group founder member which organises worthwhile gap years in Guyana, with placements available in teaching, care and conservation.
