BISEE Book Bus launches in memory of gap year students

Gap year students planning a trip to Ecuador will be able to take part in a new project which has been set up in memory of five English volunteers.

The BISEE Book Bus has been funded by BISEE Books, a charity founded by the families of five gap year students.

Becci Logie, Indira Swann, Sarah Howard, Emily Sadler and Lizzie Pincock died in a coach crash on April 12th 2008 as they were travelling to take part in a similar project.

The BISEE bus, which takes its name from the first initial of each of the girls, will be packed with books, play equipment, art and music supplies, and will visit schools in the Amazon, Andes and other coastal regions of Ecuador.

Around 25 schools will benefit from the project, which will provide placements for up to eight volunteers at a time who will aim to promote an interest in reading among the young children they meet.

Year Out Group has 13 member organisations that organise gap year placements in Ecuador, including Outreach International which provides experience for anyone considering a career in medicine, teaching or environmental work.
