There are plenty of employment options for those keen on taking a career break during the recession, it has been claimed.
Job security is uncertain in the current economic climate, according to an article for Shelter Offshore Magazine, which could encourage office workers to fulfil their adventure plans with a gap year abroad.
The magazine notes that redundancy is an option for many employees, with the money capable of being used to fund gap year planning and activities.
A paid sabbatical is less likely in the current climate, the article notes, although taking unpaid leave may not be such a bad idea either if employers are willing to guarantee employment when travellers return.
"For those that do decided to take a break through a sabbatical or redundancy it is essential that they use the time wisely. Gaining a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)qualification could open up new opportunities in teaching or training while learning a foreign language and experiencing new cultures through voluntary work could greatly improve your future employability," advised Richard Oliver of Year Out Group.
Last month, business advisory firm Deloitte noted that a gap year can help to boost graduate's CV by improving their skills through work experience.
The firm also announced its own gap year scheme, open to those taking a year out between A-Levels and university study.
