Career break taken to set up children's orphanage

A woman from Stretton has put her career break to good use by setting up a children's orphanage in Kenya.

The Burton Mail reported that Kerry Watson has just returned from her latest three-month stay in the village of Majimboni, where building work has recently been completed on the Footprints Orphanage.

She has taken a career break from her job at Thomson Travel to look after the project, with the Kenyan facility now awaiting its first child.

"I feel very proud and very emotional. It’s fulfilled my life and put so much more meaning into it to be out there doing what I'm doing," she told the source.

In the last three months, Ms Watson has purchased a four-wheel drive vehicle in Kenya, while she has also employed an orphanage manger, maintenance man and housekeeper as her dream begins to take shape.

Last year, Rachel White, 25, from Swindon, decided to take a career break to spend three months helping children in an orphanage in Cambodia.
