People interested in Arabic culture and experiences should take a gap year in Morocco, according to an industry expert.
Sarah Baxter, deputy editor at Wanderlust magazine, said that the African country is only a three-hour flight away from the UK, and gap year students will be able to see bustling souks, muezzin-sounding mosques and Arabic architecture.
"In terms of adventure, the country has excellent hiking, boasting the highest peaks in north Africa just outside buzzy Marrakesh. But there's also excellent surfing on the Atlantic coast and world-class white-water rafting, which you might not expect for a desert nation," she added.
Ms Baxter stated that gap year destinations such as Morocco are becoming more popular as people go in search of "adventurous" destinations rather than just "flopping" on a beach.
Year Out Group has five founder members which arrange gap year placements in Morocco, including Cesa Languages Abroad which organises immersion courses from one to 48 weeks in duration.
