Mexico offers a 'unique destination' for gap year students

People thinking about travelling to the Americas for a gap year abroad have been told that Mexico is a unique destination which showcases a vast diversity of experiences.

Juliana Eshraghi, a spokesperson for the Mexico Tourism Board, said that people will find themselves wanting to come back for second or third visits.

"We would highly recommend visiting Mexico City and the Museum of Anthropology, which is the most important museum in Latin America. The main square in Mexico City is a must-see, which is the second most important after the Red Plaza in Moscow," she added.

Ms Eshraghi also said that gap year students can experience Mexico on a low budget, backpacking around the country or treating themselves to slightly plusher accommodation.

Year Out Group has eight founder members which arrange gap year placements in Mexico, including Africa and Asia Venture, which specialises in teaching, community and conservation work for 18 to 24-year-olds.
