Gap year students 'should visit US national parks'

Travelling to the US is becoming more desirable for British gap year students, with plenty to do for everyone.

Stella Clerly-Ackland, UK representative of the United States Travel Association and DiscoverAmerica.com, said that the country is currently attracting more travellers seeking soft adventure, heritage and cultural experiences.

She added that travelling along Route 66 "was still a firm favourite", while the range, beauty and vastness of the National Parks Service also needs to be explored.

"We are seeing a marked increase in people visiting the wonderful parklands and prairies of the USA and immersing themselves in the cowboy culture of the West in the numerous dude ranches of the Rocky Mountain states," she commented.

Ms Clerly-Ackland also said that the US has always been the most favoured long-haul destination for travellers from the UK, with outdoor holidays proving ever more popular.

Year Out Group has ten member organisations which plan worthwhile and beneficial gap years to the US, including Camp America, Flying Fish and Peak Leaders.
