Poland has an "authentic flair" which will appeal to the modern tourist, gap year students have been told.
Ewa Binkin, development and press manager at the Polish National Tourist Office, made the comments after the country was picked out as one of the destinations of the decade in a guide by the Guardian.
"Because it's still the old Europe [and] because civilisation hasn't hit us the way it has in many other countries, you get this uniqueness in every place you go to," added Ms Binkin.
The expert also said the Poland offers good value for money as a gap year destination, as the exchange rates is currently very good for Brits.
Furthermore, Ms Binkin said that Krakow is a popular destination, while those looking to do skiing on their gap year should also consider Poland, as it is much less expensive than more renowned destinations.
The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office advised gap year students to ensure that they have comprehensive travel and medical insurance before visiting Poland, making sure that they understand any exclusions which are listed.
