Monument Valley 'should be explored' on gap year in US

The 'real America' should be explored by gap year students, according to a guide.

A report written on TravelBite.co.uk said that the Old West should be visited, taking in vast canyons, dusty red rocks and the cowboy spirit, which is a million miles away from the bright lights and beaches.

"Monument Valley is fixed in our minds as a popular culture icon. You may not recognise the name instantly, but all you need to do is think back to those old westerns you watched as a child," it stated, adding that the chances are the enormous sandstone buttes ridden through by the heroes of the hour were the very landscape of Monument Valley.

TravelBite.co.uk added that western US has several national parks which need to be visited, while Death Valley is also a must-see location.

Yosemite Park, featuring clear streams, cascading waterfalls and wilderness is another must-visit place on a US gap year.
