A student is looking forward to what he anticipates will be a "breathtaking" gap year in Tanzania.
Joshua Raistrick, 16, from Little Fryup, is currently attempting to raise the £3,500 to pay for the trip in July next year, where he will carry out work at a southern Tanzanian school.
The Whitby Gazette reported that the Lady Lumley's pupil will help with installing a water supply to the African school, repairing classroom furniture and renovating another room.
He has already held a sale in Danby Village Hall to raise funds, while other events are in the process of being planned.
"Josh has no fear of travelling and really enjoys it. He says he's going to have a gap year when he leaves school and go travelling. He'll be away in Tanzania for a month and it really will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience," said his mother Sophie.
Year Out Group has 17 founder members which arrange gap year placements in Tanzania, including Africa and Asia Venture and Greenforce.
