Year Out Group is celebrating its tenth birthday, having helped around 330,000 gap year students to enjoy worthwhile and well-planned placements in more than 90 different countries around the world.
Now an association of 38 member organisations, Year Out Group was launched in the summer of 2010, with its 22 members promising to promote the concept and benefits of well-planned gap years.
The group also aimed to promote good practice amongst providers while offering impartial advice to help gap year students get the most out of their time abroad.
Richard Oliver, chief executive of Year Out Group, said that the past decade has seen a steady increase in the number of people taking a gap year.
"Last year was a difficult one for a few members but numbers held up surprisingly well as students unable to secure a place at university and graduates unable to find a job sought ways to improve their chances," he stated, adding that 2010 is set to see a further surge in people taking a gap year.
Year Out Group also promotes the benefits of taking a career break, with participants being able to boost their CV and skill set for the next stage of their life.
