A new GPS tracker has been launched which will give worried parents peace of mind while their son or daughter is on their gap year abroad.
Gapyear Trackers was formed last year after its parent firm Trackershop-UK was contacted by numerous worried parents of young travellers.
Sean Byron, spokesperson for Gapyear Trackers, speaking at the launch of the new Bronze Track GPS machine, said: "It is a small discreet device that can be carried in a pocket or worn around the neck. If a relative wants to know its location they simply phone the tracker which then texts back its location anywhere in the world where there is a mobile phone signal."
The device also has an SOS function, which when pressed by the user sends a help message and location to up to three pre-determined mobile phones.
Gap year students can also keep in touch with relatives back home by using a smartphone, with social networking applications allowing travellers to update their progress at a low cost.
